Canadian Squirrels Emigrate

Sue has a treee in her backyard that was hit by lightning some years back, and has a big gash down its length. It's a Big Tree:

The strike was long ago, the tree looks fine, but she has wondered how healthy it is, and if she should have it taken down. If it falls, it would likely hit her garden, greenhouse and take down some fences on her property that keep in the sheep and goats. So she watches the tree. It's easy to watch: it's right outside her kitchen window:

One day, she noticed movement part way up the tree. A squirrel (skwir-rel for you Brits) had a nest and his (her?) tail was has hanging out of a hole about level with the window:

But is that a tail? Are squirrels blue? Yikes! Several months previous, Sue had some dyed wool drying on the back porch. Could it be?

Yes. Canadian squirrels are invading, and bringing their wool-stealing, stolen wool flaunting habits with them (Feb. 10th entry).

The border is apparently fluid. Measures(August 28th entry)will be taken.

I haven't tried leaving any wool out to see if the Virginia squirrels would take it, although I suspect the starlings would. I wonder how long it will take for the Canadian squirrels to make it to Virginia?

Oh No! The Wool Stealing Squirrels! Hide the wool- protect your handspun - they are invading!
Will keep an eye here in Pennsylvania and report back if I see any here. (going to hide my stash now)

Haha! I came over from the Harlot herself and thought I'd chime in that this is hilarious! Good luck to Sue trying to keep that pesky squirrel away in the future! =)

When we lived in Portsmouth some Guy knocked my door one day and asked me if I had pink towels!!! Mine had apparently blown off the line and attacked him as he walked down the street!!!!

This is the little known Spinning and Knitting Squirrel. This is a rare, dual purpose rodent. Please do not cut down her home so that this species may continue. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

California has redwoods. And now, trying to keep those tourist dollars coming, it's got bluewoods. Might just be some Hollywood makeover job, though, you know.

I guess this is why we call stashing "squirreling away." I think your squirrel is definitely more quaint than our packrat, and he also has much better taste, plus he has his own home. No Su Casa es mi Casa for him.

this just proves, clearly, that the wool was "pretty enough to steal"!

Reminds me of a few years ago when I was weaving off the warp on a guild loom in my garage - a basket next to me with balls of dyed yarn for weft. Took a break and came back to find missing balls of yarn. My neighbor's klepto-cat had absconded with them, and left a trail of yarn to track him down. :-)

I cam over from The Yarn Harlot's blog.

I knew there were immigration issues in the 2008 election but I never realized just how serious it had become.

Sue, brave saviour of precious fiber, should be exempt from such squirrelry. Have they no decency at all?

Aaaaand, Sara, I've named you one of the "bloggers who make my day" for the meme that's circulating now. Share and enjoy, pass it along should you so desire.
